Mylan asks US court to clear Wegovy generic from Novo patent claims

Mylan Pharmaceuticals asked a Delaware federal court to rule that its proposed generic version of Wegovy would not infringe Novo Nordisk’s patent covering a method of administering single-dose pens for weight loss. Viatris, which owns Mylan, filed the lawsuit against Novo.

Generic versions of Wegovy and Ozempic cannot enter the U.S. market until 2032, when Novo’s patents covering semaglutide, the drugs’ active ingredient, expire. Novo earned nearly $31 billion from Wegovy and Ozempic last year, according to a company report, and has settled other patent lawsuits involving proposed generics.
