1. Futures and commodities
S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures rose early Tuesday, while Dow futures fell. Oil prices extended losses from the previous day; the dollar and gold were roughly flat, and bitcoin rose. The 10-year Treasury yield was last up at 4.92%.
2. Company shares lower
Apple shares fell in premarket trading after the company warned late Monday that rising memory-chip costs would pressure gross margin in the current quarter. Palantir Technologies shares also fell, despite the company forecasting fourth-quarter revenue above estimates and reporting third-quarter results that topped expectations.
3. Midterm elections
Investors awaited US midterm election results, which will determine whether President Donald Trump's Republican party retains control of both houses of Congress. Polls were due to close late Tuesday.
