Natur-Tec India and Bayer to Develop Compostable Seedling Cups for Vegetable and Fruit Nurseries
NTIC•Natur-Tec India and Bayer signed an MOU to jointly develop biodegradable seedling cups compatible with nematicides and fungicides, ensuring germination, root development and seedling vigor. Pilot trials will begin in vegetable and fruit nurseries across India with plans for global scaling after successful validation.
1. MOU to Develop Compostable Seedling Cups
Natur-Tec India Private Limited and Bayer signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop biodegradable, compostable seedling cups designed to replace single-use plastic nursery containers.
2. Product Design and Chemical Compatibility
The cups will support early seedling development, maintain germination rates and root vigor while remaining fully compatible with widely used nematicides and fungicides, then naturally decompose within standard transplant cycles.
3. Pilot Trials in Vegetable and Fruit Nurseries
Initial field tests will launch in India’s vegetable and fruit nurseries, measuring germination metrics, growth parameters and yield outcomes to validate product performance.
4. Scaling Strategy and Circular Economy Impact
Following successful validation, the partnership plans to scale the compostable cups across India and into global markets, aiming to eliminate nursery waste and advance a circular economy in agriculture.
