NatWest report flags “conversion gap” holding back UK mid-market firms despite £1.2 trillion turnover
NWG•A NatWest report flags a “conversion gap” among UK mid-sized firms, which generate £1.2 trillion in turnover and 7.3 million jobs, with talent constraints and limited business-wide AI deployment among the challenges.
1. Growth barriers and AI
The report defines mid-market firms as having £10 million–£100 million in revenue or 50–500 employees. It says 55% cite talent or leadership development as a top growth barrier, 42% flag recruitment capability, and up to two-thirds of AI users have not deployed AI business-wide; NatWest urged a dedicated framework, a leadership program and a mid-market share of the government’s £200 million AI funding.
