New York Times countersues US employment agency over its diversity and hiring lawsuit
NYT•New York Times files countersuit against EEOC
NEW YORK, July 10 (Reuters) - The New York Times NYT.N sued the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Friday, saying the agency's lawsuit accusing the newspaper of passing over a white man for a top editorial role to meet what the agency viewed as illegal diversity goals was unconstitutional.
The countersuit filed in Manhattan federal court seeks to dismiss the EEOC's case, a declaration that the agency's actions violate the U.S. Constitution's First and Fifth Amendments, and other remedies.
