NextEra Energy tops quarterly profit estimates, says Dominion deal on track
D•NextEra Energy reported adjusted third-quarter earnings of $1.24 per share, above analysts’ $1.18 estimate. The company said regulatory reviews are moving forward for its $66.8 billion acquisition of Dominion Energy, which it expects to close in the second half of 2027.
1. Quarterly earnings
NextEra Energy beat Wall Street estimates for third-quarter adjusted profit, helped by strength in its renewables unit and increased power demand. Florida Power & Light reported net income of $1.62 billion, up from $1.46 billion a year earlier, while NextEra Energy Resources reported $1.49 billion, compared with $1.27 billion.
2. Dominion transaction
CEO John Ketchum said shareholders of both companies approved the pending combination in September and state and federal regulatory reviews are moving forward. The $66.8 billion acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2027 and has faced scrutiny from regulators and elected officials. NextEra Energy Resources added about 3.7 gigawatts of renewable and storage capacity to its backlog, bringing the total to roughly 36.7 gigawatts.
