NHS England will provide Microsoft 365 Copilot to 505,000 clinicians and support staff across all trusts, marking the largest AI assistant implementation in healthcare. Initial rollout phases target administrative processes like patient discharge, rota management and meeting minutes.
2. Trial Demonstrated Significant Time Savings
An initial pilot involving 30,000 NHS workers across 90 organizations recorded average savings of 43 minutes per user per day, equating to five weeks of additional clinical capacity annually and potential millions of hours saved systemwide.
3. Custom Agents via Copilot Studio
The agreement includes access to Coppilot Studio, allowing central and local teams to develop AI agents for tasks such as HR inquiries, finance processing, complaints handling and bed management, with governance enforced by Agent 365 policies.
4. Structured Onboarding and Skilling Program
A 12-month program will onboard 505,000 users, scaling to 200,000 in six months, and deliver extensive training to ensure staff proficiency in AI tools, driving productivity gains and cost efficiencies across NHS services.
