Nike Appoints Garcia in EMEA, Sparks in Greater China Roles

NKENKE

Carl Grebert retired after nearly 30 years, and Nike named César Garcia as VP/GM of EMEA effective February 2. Angela Dong will leave March 31, with Cathy Sparks succeeding her in Greater China and Cristin Campbell stepping in as interim VP/GM for Asia Pacific Latin America.

1. Leadership Overhaul Strengthens Regional Strategies

NIKE, Inc. has announced a strategic reshuffle of its Senior Leadership Team, appointing new Vice Presidents and General Managers for EMEA, Greater China and APLA to accelerate its "Win Now" initiatives and enhance its Sport Offense. These changes mark the first major geographic leadership reorganization since the start of FY26, reflecting management’s focus on localized decision-making and speed to market across key regions that together comprise over 60% of NIKE’s global revenue.

2. EMEA Transition: Retirement and Succession

Carl Grebert, who joined NIKE in 1997 and held various leadership roles for nearly 30 years, will retire effective February 1. Under his tenure, EMEA sales grew at a 5% compound annual rate between FY17 and FY22, driven by campaigns such as Conquer the Streets and product integrations in football and running. Succeeding him is César Garcia, a 25-year veteran who has led merchandising and analytics integration efforts, most recently improving gross margin by 120 basis points in Western Europe. Garcia’s appointment is effective February 2 and aims to sustain EMEA’s mid‐teens revenue growth seen in the past four quarters.

3. Greater China Leadership Change

Angela Dong, who joined NIKE in 2005 and steered Greater China through the Beijing Olympics and post-pandemic recovery—helping the region rebound 18% year-over-year in Q1 FY24—will exit the company on March 31. Cathy Sparks, a 25-year NIKE veteran and current VP/GM for APLA, will assume the role on April 1. Sparks led APLA to 12% sales growth in FY25 by driving consumer-led initiatives in Southeast Asia and Latin America, and her return to China is expected to focus on rebuilding momentum amid cautious consumer spending and increasing local competition.

4. APLA Interim Leadership and Next Steps

With Sparks’ transition, Cristin "Crissy" Campbell, VP of NIKE Brand for APLA and Sport Offense lead, will serve as Interim VP/GM of APLA. Campbell has driven a 9% improvement in direct-to-consumer conversion rates across the region over the past year and will ensure continuity ahead of a permanent appointment. Management expects these leadership moves to bolster NIKE’s ability to deliver its targeted mid-single-digit global revenue growth for FY26 and maintain operating margin expansion toward its long-term goal of 13%–14%.
