NIO’s Firefly Debuts Right-Hand-Drive EV in Hong Kong, Marks 15% of May Deliveries
NIO•Firefly unveiled its first right-hand-drive hatchback at the Hong Kong Auto Show, marking expansion into nearly 40 markets following launches in Singapore and Thailand. Firefly accounted for 15% of NIO’s deliveries in May with 5,663 vehicles, underpinning overseas growth as U.S. shares rose 1% overnight despite a 10% June slide.

Firefly showcased its first right-hand-drive hatchback at the 2026 Hong Kong Auto Show, signalling NIO’s push into RHD markets. No local pricing, distributor agreements or delivery timelines have been announced, reflecting a distributor-led approach used in Macau, Singapore and Thailand.
2. Delivery Contribution and Growth
In May, Firefly delivered 5,663 vehicles, representing 15% of NIO’s total deliveries for the month. Cumulative Firefly deliveries reached over 50,000 units in March, with 22,226 delivered in the first five months of 2026, and the brand targeting 100,000 by year-end.
3. Overseas Expansion Strategy
Following launches in Singapore and Thailand, NIO plans to introduce Firefly to nearly 40 countries, focusing on right-hand-drive and lower-tariff markets amid rising trade barriers. The company relies on local partners to reduce costs and enhance market access.
4. Stock Performance and UK R&D Facility
NIO’s U.S. shares rose 1% overnight after the Firefly debut but remain down 10% in June. The company also marked the 10th anniversary of its UK R&D center by opening a new engineering facility in Oxfordshire to support future vehicle programs including the EP9 and ET9.
