Nokia Expands AI-Based 5G Partnership to 42% of Brazil, Deepens Deutsche Telekom Deal
Nokia will expand its AI-powered 5G network deal with TIM Brasil to 14 more states covering 42% of Brazil’s population and extend its AI-native RAN collaboration with Deutsche Telekom. The agreements follow Nokia’s Infinera acquisition and Nvidia’s $1 billion stake, highlighting its shift to AI-driven network services as 5G spending lags.
1. Expansion of TIM Brasil Partnership
Nokia will expand its existing 5G network modernisation partnership with TIM Brasil from the state of São Paulo to 14 additional states spanning four regions, collectively covering 42% of Brazil’s population. The upgrade leverages Nvidia’s AI-RAN platform to enable AI-driven services for corporate clients across the expanded footprint.
2. Collaboration with Deutsche Telekom
The extended agreement with Deutsche Telekom focuses on developing cloud-native, disaggregated, AI-native radio access network technology. This collaboration aims to create programmable and automated mobile networks that are faster, simpler and optimized for future AI connectivity requirements.
3. Strategic AI Investments and Restructuring
Last year’s acquisition of optical networking firm Infinera and Nvidia’s $1 billion equity investment underline Nokia’s commitment to AI-driven growth. These moves form a core part of one of the company’s largest restructurings since divesting its mobile handset business, aimed at offsetting weak 5G spending.
