Nokia’s Global Network Traffic Report forecasts total network traffic will nearly quadruple from 2026 levels to almost 3,789 exabytes per month. It projects agentic AI traffic will reach 160 times its 2026 level and physical AI traffic 105 times; more than 90% of physical AI traffic is expected to travel over uplinks.
The report expects edge and metro core infrastructure to handle 36% of AI-native traffic, reflecting demand for processing closer to users.
