Norfolk Southern Joins 7,000-Mile Big Boy Tour, Highlights 15M Ton Carbon Reduction
NSC•Norfolk Southern joined Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 coast-to-coast tour, attracting tens of thousands in Philadelphia as part of a 7,000-mile, 14-state celebration running through July 29 in Cheyenne. NSC’s participation underscores its 22-state network reach and role in avoiding 15 million tons of carbon emissions via rail transport.
1. Partnership with Union Pacific
Norfolk Southern collaborated with Union Pacific for the America250 coast-to-coast tour of Big Boy No. 4014, featuring a ceremonial Silver Spike driving in Philadelphia. NSC President and CEO Mark George joined Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena to celebrate rail’s heritage and its role in U.S. infrastructure.

The tour covers about 7,000 miles across 14 states and culminates in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on July 29. Alongside Big Boy No. 4014, the route features NSC’s America’s 250 locomotive series, the historic Marco Polo rail car, and Union Pacific’s commemorative locomotives.
