North America rig count fell by six week on week to 773, with U.S. unchanged at 551 rigs and Canada down six to 222. U.S. oil rigs fell by three to 409 while gas rigs rose by three to 133, and Canadian oil rigs slipped by two to 153.

North America’s total rig count decreased by six rigs week on week to 773 rigs, driven by a six-rig decline in Canada while the U.S. total held steady at 551 rigs.

In the U.S., oil rigs decreased by three to 409 rigs and gas rigs increased by three to 133 rigs. Land rigs stood at 531, offshore rigs rose by one to 17, and inland water rigs remained at three, with horizontal rigs down two to 481 and directional rigs up two to 57.

3. State and Basin Variances

Texas led state declines with three fewer rigs, while Louisiana added two rigs; Oklahoma and North Dakota each lost one rig and New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wyoming each added one. Basin-level changes saw the Permian drop three rigs, the Williston drop one, the Haynesville add two and the Marcellus add one.

4. Year-on-Year Comparison

Compared to last February, North America’s rig count is down 60 rigs, with the U.S. down 37 rigs and Canada down 23 rigs, reflecting a net loss of 72 oil rigs and a gain of 32 gas rigs in the U.S. year on year.
