Northrop Grumman cut a small number of Baltimore-area Mission Systems jobs after a large contract reduction, shifting headcount to other segments. Mission Systems revenue rose 2% quarter-over-quarter, trailing Aeronautics' 17% and Defense Systems' 5%, while overall 2026 guidance held steady and TD Cowen cut its price target to $680.

1. Layoffs Reflect Contract Demand Shift

Northrop Grumman reduced a small number of positions in Baltimore-area Mission Systems facilities after a major contract was pulled or scaled back. The company said staffing adjustments align with customer priorities and that affected employees received advance notice and are being considered for other internal roles.

2. Maryland Workforce Footprint

The company employs over 14,000 workers in Maryland, including roughly 10,700 in Anne Arundel County. Key sites near BWI airport, Baltimore, Annapolis, Aberdeen Proving Ground and Elkton focus on microelectronics, radar systems, underwater vehicles and space technologies.

3. Segment Revenue Performance

Mission Systems revenue grew 2% in the latest quarter, trailing Aeronautics’ 17% and Defense Systems’ 5% gains. Despite uneven division growth, overall first-quarter revenue and EPS exceeded estimates by about 1%, aided by tax benefits.

4. Analyst Reaction and Price Target

Analyst firm TD Cowen maintained a hold rating and lowered its price target from $720 to $680. Northrop’s 2026 guidance remains largely unchanged and does not yet account for potential upside from future contract awards.
