1. Autonomous flight completed
Northrop Grumman said the YFQ-48A Talon Blue completed its first fully autonomous flight on Oct. 3, 2026, covering taxi, takeoff, maneuvers and landing.
2. Development approach
The internally funded program targets faster, lower-cost production through modular design and advanced manufacturing, without reducing mission capability. Design changes cut part count and weight, aiming to improve unit economics as demand for autonomous systems rises.
3. Project Talon portfolio
The work feeds into Northrop Grumman’s broader Project Talon portfolio, which uses Talon IQ and Prism Mission Autonomy to speed autonomy maturation.
