Norway targets 'harmful' social media, games with under-16 ban
XLK•Norway said its planned under-16 social media ban will cover platforms it considers harmful, naming Roblox, Snapchat and TikTok. The bill would make technology companies responsible for age verification.
1. Platforms in scope
Norway’s government said its planned bill will cover “many platforms,” including TikTok, Roblox and Snapchat. It defined harmful platforms as social media that, through their design, features or content, pose risks to children’s development or safety.
2. Planned restrictions
The government said in April it would present a bill to parliament by the end of the year to ban children from using social media until age 16 and make technology companies responsible for age verification. Children and young people would still have access to messaging services and games deemed harmless.
