Novartis reportedly ends mid-stage Fabhalta trial targeting serious kidney condition
NVS•Novartis reportedly terminated a mid-stage study testing Fabhalta for lupus nephritis after completing its first part, citing “strategic considerations.” The registry did not say whether safety or effectiveness played a role.
1. Study termination
Novartis terminated a mid-stage study evaluating whether oral Fabhalta was safe and effective for lupus nephritis when added to standard medical care. A federal clinical trials registry, last updated October 15, says the company decided to conclude the study after completing its first part, citing “strategic considerations.”
2. Fabhalta approvals
The registry gave no other explanation and did not say whether safety or effectiveness played a role. The U.S. FDA first approved Fabhalta in 2023 for the rare blood disorder PNH; it has since been approved for IgA nephropathy and C3 glomerulopathy.
