Nuro Secures Permit to Test Lucid SUVs with Nvidia Drive AGX Thor, Uber Bolsters $500M Deal
Nuro received California approval to test Lucid Gravity SUVs driverlessly with Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor computer, allowing runs without a human safety operator later this year. Uber raised its Lucid commitment to $500M for 10,000 Gravity SUVs and 25,000 EVs, underscoring Nvidia’s growing footprint in autonomous robotaxi systems.
1. Permit Details
The California Department of Motor Vehicles modified Nuro’s driverless AV permit to include Lucid Gravity SUVs, enabling fully autonomous testing on public roads without a human safety operator. Nuro expects to initiate these driverless trials later this year as part of its expanded testing program.
2. Uber and Nvidia Partnership
Uber increased its investment in Lucid to $500 million, committing to at least 10,000 Gravity SUVs and 25,000 additional EVs equipped with Nuro’s autonomous system. These vehicles run on Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor platform, positioning Nvidia to capture a growing share of the robotaxi compute market.
