Nutrien management attributes Q3 2026 earnings decline to lower phosphate and nitrogen earnings
NTR•Nutrien’s third-quarter 2026 net earnings fell 39% to $288 million, with weaker phosphate and nitrogen earnings. For the first nine months, adjusted EBITDA rose 2% to $4.85 billion while net earnings fell 4% to $1.65 billion.
1. Third-quarter results
Nutrien management attributed the 39% decline in third-quarter 2026 net earnings, to $288 million, to weaker phosphate and nitrogen earnings. Phosphate adjusted EBITDA fell 93% to $8 million as higher sulfur input costs outweighed stronger fertilizer benchmarks. Nitrogen earnings weakened as lower sales volumes outweighed higher global benchmarks and lower natural gas costs.
2. Nine-month results
For the first nine months of 2026, adjusted EBITDA rose 2% to $4.85 billion, driven by higher fertilizer benchmarks and record potash sales volumes. Net earnings fell 4% to $1.65 billion, reflecting higher finance costs and income taxes.
