Nvidia partnered with Cisco to develop USFP, a pluggable optics form factor for next-generation AI data center networks. It is designed for 400Gb/s-per-lane electrical signals and up to 12.8Tb/s of module capacity for Ethernet-based AI fabrics.
The companies aim to raise bandwidth density fourfold versus 200Gb/s-per-lane optics, with about 1.3 times better power efficiency. TE Connectivity and Amphenol are joining the effort to build cages, connectors and modules, while the group plans to pursue an open industry specification through a community-led multi-source project.
