Nvidia in talks to invest further in Reflection AI or buy it, reportedly
NVDA•Nvidia is in early-stage talks to increase its investment in Reflection AI or acquire the startup, with a deal potentially taking several forms and discussions still able to fall apart. Nvidia has invested $800 million in Reflection, which its CEO said in April was raising capital at a $25 billion pre-money valuation.
1. Talks remain early
Nvidia is discussing a deeper investment in Reflection AI or an acquisition, and an agreement could be reached in the coming weeks, though the discussions could still fall apart. One possibility is an acqui-hire in which Nvidia would hire staff and license technology rather than pursue a full acquisition.
2. Startup details
Nvidia has invested $800 million in Reflection, an open-source startup founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou. CEO Laskin said in April that the company was raising fresh capital at a $25 billion pre-money valuation.
3. New AI model
Reflection launched its first open-weight model, Beam, on Monday as it seeks to compete in coding and agentic tasks with lower-cost Chinese models such as DeepSeek and Kimi. Reflection declined to comment, and Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
