Under the expanded collaboration, SLB will act as a design partner with Nvidia to engineer modular AI data center units tailored for the energy sector. This builds on their initial 2008 accelerated computing work and a 2024 extension into generative AI solutions for oil and gas.

The joint ‘AI Factory for Energy’ platform will integrate Nvidia’s accelerated computing and SLB’s domain expertise to process large volumes of geological, production and infrastructure data. It aims to provide turnkey AI infrastructure that accelerates insight generation for energy operators.

Energy companies face surging volumes of operational data as they pursue cost cuts, reliability gains and emissions reductions. The modular design is intended to offer scalable on-site and edge deployments to handle these computational demands efficiently.

This agreement opens a new vertical for Nvidia’s data center GPUs beyond hyperscale cloud providers, potentially creating recurrent hardware and licensing revenue streams. Success could validate Nvidia’s strategy to diversify into industry-specific AI infrastructure markets.
