NY Attorney General Sues 3M Over PFAS, Wolfe Raises Target to $189

In July 2026, the New York Attorney General filed suit against 3M and other chemical producers, accusing them of knowingly causing decades of PFAS contamination through consumer products while concealing health and environmental risks.
2. Allegations and Potential Liabilities
The complaint asserts internal research dating back to the 1970s showed PFAS toxicity and persistence, yet the companies continued selling these chemicals. The AG seeks court orders to fund statewide cleanup, mandate consumer warnings, halt misleading marketing and recover damages and disgorged profits.
3. Wolfe Research Price Target Increase
Wolfe Research reaffirmed its Outperform rating on 3M and raised the price target from $182 to $189, citing robust performance in the Safety and Industrial segment and sustained demand for personal safety and industrial products.
4. Segment Performance and Outlook
3M’s Safety and Industrial unit delivered a 3.2% year-over-year increase in adjusted organic sales and improved operating margin by 100 basis points. Management projects approximately 3% full-year organic sales growth and EPS of $8.50–$8.70 for 2026.
