Ocean Power Technologies demonstrated autonomous docking, charging and redeployment of its WAM-V® surface vehicle, enabling it to secure to a dock and recharge without human intervention. The company will integrate this system with its PowerBuoy® platform to create offshore charging points and form a distributed marine network for continuous operations.

1. Demonstration of Autonomous Docking and Charging

Ocean Power Technologies successfully executed a live demonstration of its WAM-V® autonomous surface vehicle executing docking, charging and redeployment without human aid. The system guided the vessel to approach a docking station, secure itself via automated latches and top up onboard batteries before resuming its mission.

2. Integration with PowerBuoy® Platform

OPT plans to link the autonomous docking system with its PowerBuoy® marine platform to establish fixed offshore charging points. These installations will supply renewable electric power and real-time data to WAM-V units, reducing the need for manned support vessels.

3. Next-Generation WAM-V Upgrades

The company is advancing a next-generation WAM-V architecture program focused on improved system compatibility, simplified payload integration and enhanced endurance. These upgrades aim to support heavier sensors, extended mission durations and easier field upgrades for defense and commercial clients.

4. Market Implications and Future Network
