onsemi Secures Design Win for 430 kW ESS and 320 kW Inverter with 0.1% Efficiency Boost
onsemi secured a design win with Sineng Electric to integrate its FS7-based hybrid Power Integrated Modules into 430 kW liquid-cooled energy storage systems and 320 kW solar string inverters. Benchmark tests show the new modules deliver up to 0.1% higher efficiency, 32% greater power-to-weight ratio, and 10% lower switching losses.
1. Design Win with Sineng Electric
onsemi secured a design win with Sineng Electric to integrate its latest-generation hybrid Power Integrated Modules into two utility-scale platforms: a 430 kW liquid-cooled energy storage system and a 320 kW solar string inverter. The modules combine FS7 insulated-gate bipolar transistors with EliteSiC diodes in a high-density F5BP package.
2. Advanced Hybrid Power Integrated Module Technology
The F5BP PIMs deliver a 32% increase in power density and a 0.1% efficiency boost over prior generations within the same footprint. Engineering improvements include 8% lower power dissipation, 10% reduced switching losses, and a 9.3% decrease in thermal resistance thanks to an optimized direct bonded copper substrate and baseplate design.
3. System-Level Performance and Cost Benefits
Benchmark testing shows the hybrid PIM cuts losses by 225 W and yields a 0.75% round-trip efficiency gain in Sineng’s 430 kW system, while auxiliary power consumption falls by 5%. These enhancements enable higher power ratings from existing installations, cooler operation under load, improved long-term reliability and lower overall operating costs.
