
Optical Cable Corporation’s Q2 net sales rose 26.6% year-on-year to $22.2 million, while gross profit climbed 42.4% to $7.6 million and net income reached $1.1 million versus a $698,000 loss a year earlier. The company’s sales order backlog increased over 27% to $13.3 million at quarter-end.
Net sales for the second quarter reached $22.2 million, up 26.6% from $17.5 million a year earlier. Gross profit rose 42.4% to $7.6 million, and the company swung to a net income of $1.1 million from a $698,000 loss in the prior year period.
Sales in the enterprise, data center and severe duty markets drove growth, with U.S. revenues up 21.2% and international revenues climbing 45.3% year-on-year. Both domestic and non-U.S. segments contributed substantially to the quarter’s performance.
At April 30, the sales order backlog stood at $13.3 million, a 27.9% increase from $10.4 million at January 31 and an 82% rise from $7.3 million at October 31. Sequentially, Q2 net sales jumped 35.2% from the $16.4 million reported in Q1.
Gross profit margin expanded to 34.2% from 30.4% a year ago thanks to higher volumes and manufacturing leverage. SG&A expenses fell to 28.2% of sales versus 32.7% last year, and management expressed confidence in sustaining momentum through disciplined execution and growth initiatives.
