Opus Genetics hits 5-year high on positive early- to mid-stage eye disease gene therapy data

Shares jump on early gene therapy data
Shares of biotech firm Opus Genetics (IRD.O) rose 55.3% to $6.75, their highest level since March 2021, after the company reported positive early- to mid-stage data for its experimental eye disease gene therapy.
The stock was up about 245% year to date including the session's move.
OPGx-BEST1 shows visual and structural improvements
Opus said OPGx-BEST1, its experimental gene therapy for BEST1-related retinal diseases — rare inherited eye disorders that cause progressive vision loss and blindness — showed clinically meaningful visual improvements in all five patients treated in an early- to mid-stage study.
The company said no serious adverse events, dose-limiting toxicities or eye inflammation were observed.
Opus reported improvements in visual acuity in 3 of 5 patients and retinal sensitivity improvements in 3 of 4 evaluable patients. Structural improvements were seen in 4 of 5 patients, including reductions in disease-related retinal lesions and fluid buildup.
