Orange joins Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica and Vodafone to explore joint bid for European satellite spectrum
ORAN•Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica and Vodafone signed a letter of intent to explore a joint bid for European mobile satellite spectrum. They plan ground infrastructure while a yet-to-be-selected partner would provide a satellite constellation.
1. Exploring a joint bid
The four operators signed a letter of intent to explore a joint bid for European mobile satellite spectrum. They plan to build European ground infrastructure without directly investing in a satellite constellation, which would be provided by a partner yet to be selected.
2. Access and coverage
The proposed initiative aims to give all mobile operators open, nondiscriminatory access to direct-to-device satellite services, with a focus on underserved areas and greater network resilience. The cooperation would not replace existing satellite partnerships.
