Otis Unveils Eight Gen3 IoT Elevators with 50% Efficiency Boost in EMEA
Otis launched eight Gen3 vertical mobility solutions across EMEA, embedding Otis ONE IoT and energy-saving ReGen drives that deliver 50% greater efficiency and 80% more compact gearless machines. The Gen3 portfolio targets low- to mid-rise buildings, enhancing revenue potential through digital services and sustainable features.
1. Q1 Earnings Outlook Lacks Key Beat Drivers
Otis Worldwide is projected to report first-quarter revenues of approximately $3.2 billion, up 4% year-over-year on continued strength in North America service contracts and modest order growth in Europe. Wall Street analysts expect adjusted operating margins of 17.5%, roughly flat sequentially as higher raw material and freight costs offset productivity gains. Consensus forecasts call for diluted EPS of $1.15, representing 6% growth versus last year’s $1.08 but falling short of the 8% average quarterly EPS gain Otis delivered over the past four quarters. Key beat drivers are missing: backlog growth is tracking below the historical 10% annual increase and service margin expansion is constrained by rising field labor rates. With free cash flow conversion expected near 85% of net income, the balance sheet remains strong, but investors may temper expectations for an earnings surprise in the upcoming report.
2. Gen3 Platform Launch Expands EMEA Product Suite
On January 21, Otis unveiled eight new Gen3 elevator models for low- to mid-rise buildings across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The lineup—Gen3 Core, Peak, Edge, Flex, Switch, Home, Bedlift and Robusta—features embedded Otis ONE IoT connectivity and incorporates the ReGen drive, which returns up to 50% of braking energy to building power systems. Gen3 machines are 80% smaller than traditional geared units and boast permanent magnet motors that cut energy consumption by as much as half. Standard features include LED lighting, sleep mode and coated steel belts that require no lubrication. Safety innovations such as eView in-car displays enable real-time voice or video calls to Otis’ OTISLINE call center. Otis estimates Gen3 installations will reduce annual energy spend by $1,200 to $3,500 per elevator, depending on usage patterns, and anticipates capturing 20% of the EMEA low- to mid-rise market within two years.
