Palantir and London mayor's office settle lawsuit over UK police contract
PLTR•Palantir and London mayor Sadiq Khan's office settled a lawsuit over the blocking of a £50 million ($66 million) police contract. The parties said they withdrew their allegations against each other.
1. Lawsuit settled
Palantir and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime said they had resolved Palantir’s challenge to the decision blocking its two-year contract with the Metropolitan Police. The £50 million ($66 million) deal would have used Palantir’s artificial intelligence systems to automate tasks and analyze evidence.
2. Procurement decision
The mayor’s office had said the police failed to hold an open competition for the contract. A joint statement said the decision not to enter into the contract was not based on Palantir’s values, ethics or wider reporting about the company, and that the office had never had a policy of not contracting with Palantir.
3. Other UK contracts
The settlement comes as Britain reviews a £330 million National Health Service contract with Palantir. A parliamentary committee said the company had a “clear mismatch with UK values” and recommended using a break clause; Palantir’s British CEO Louis Mosley called the suggestion “irresponsible”.
