Pennsylvania secures $4 billion in investments, governor says
MRK•Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said the state secured more than $4 billion in life sciences and private-sector investment commitments over the past week, with the investments expected to create more than 6,300 jobs.
1. Merck expansion
Pennsylvania secured a $2.9 billion investment from Merck to expand its operations in Montgomery County by the end of 2030. Merck will invest $550 million in a robotics- and AI-enabled drug research and development facility for medicine manufacturing and discovery.
2. Other commitments
GSK said last week it would invest more than $800 million to expand its Upper Merion site into a biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research hub, creating more than 300 jobs over five years. The state is investing $371.5 million to expand container and auto capacity at port facilities, a move expected to unlock another $200 million in private-sector investment and $266 million in federal support.
