Petrobras has completed its acquisition of a stake in offshore Block 3 off São Tomé and Príncipe and formally assumed operatorship of the exploration license. The move expands the company’s deepwater portfolio in West Africa, supporting its strategy to boost upstream output through high-impact exploration assets.
Petrobras finalized the purchase of a stake in the offshore Block 3 exploration license in São Tomé and Príncipe and officially took over operatorship of the asset. The transaction transfers full operational control to Petrobras and integrates the block into its portfolio of deepwater projects.
The acquisition marks Petrobras’s latest expansion beyond Brazilian waters, adding a West African asset to its upstream portfolio. Block 3 lies in a frontier basin with potential for significant hydrocarbon discoveries, aligning with the company’s goal to diversify production sources.
Petrobras plans to initiate seismic surveys later this year to map the reservoir structure and evaluate prospects. The company is targeting a first exploration well in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and local partnership agreements.
