Petrobras Starts Búzios 8 FPSO, Adds 180k bbl/d Oil and 7.2 mcm Gas Capacity
Petrobras began oil production at Búzios 8 with P-79 FPSO, processing 180,000 barrels of oil and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas daily. The early start lifts field capacity to 1.33 million barrels per day and adds up to 3 mcm of gas via the ROTA 3 pipeline.
1. Production Start at Búzios 8
Petrobras has initiated oil production at the Búzios 8 project using the P-79 FPSO, marking the eighth vessel in the field. This start-up occurred ahead of schedule under the 2026–2030 business plan, with commissioning teams completing system tests during transit from South Korea.
2. Technical Specifications of P-79
The P-79 FPSO can process up to 180,000 barrels of oil and compress 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day. It is tied to 14 wells—eight producers and six injectors equipped with intelligent completions—and employs rigid pipelines for production and injection alongside flexible lines for service functions, featuring emissions-reducing design.
3. Impact on Field Capacity and Gas Supply
Bringing P-79 online raises Búzios field’s total installed oil capacity to approximately 1.33 million barrels per day. The Búzios 8 link to the ROTA 3 pipeline is set to boost Brazil’s gas supply by up to 3 million cubic meters daily.
4. Future Expansion Plans
The field will expand to 12 FPSOs once P-80, P-82, P-83 and the contracted Búzios 12 units are completed. Existing platforms P-74 through P-79 and the January 2026 start of Búzios 6 via P-78 lay the groundwork for this long-term development.
