PGE measures live vegetation moisture with NASA-backed research to sharpen wildfire risk analysis
POR•PGE launches wildfire research program with NASA-backed support
PGE launched a wildfire research program to measure live vegetation moisture across its service territory, aiming to refine operational decisions tied to fire risk.
The utility is working with University of Idaho researchers with support from NASA’s FireSense program.
PGE is sampling live fuels at 11 sites where it already operates weather stations and soil-moisture monitoring.
The effort is intended to build a long-term regional dataset to distinguish normal seasonal drying from unusually stressed conditions.
