Philips wins $3 million U.S. patent verdict against China's Quectel

Spokespeople for Quectel did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the verdict.
A Philips spokesperson said the company was pleased with the verdict and believes it "recognizes the value of Philips’ innovations and intellectual property".
Philips first sued Quectel in 2020.
Quectel denied the allegations and argued that Philips' patents were invalid.
The Dutch company lost a related patent case against Quectel at the U.S. International Trade Commission in 2022.
Jury finds infringement in wireless technology patents
Chinese tech company Quectel owes Philips $3 million for infringing a patent related to 3G and 4G wireless technology, a jury in Delaware federal court said on Thursday.
The jury said in a separate verdict on Wednesday that Quectel's cellular communication modules, which are used in a range of internet-of-things enabled products, infringe one of two Philips patents at issue.
The jury determined Thursday that Quectel's infringement was also willful, which could lead to a judge multiplying the award by up to three times.
