APS completed over 400 MW of new gas, solar and battery capacity ahead of schedule and remains on track to finish the Red Hawk expansion by 2028 with plans for up to 2 GW more gas capacity in 2030. The utility added 34,000 meters for a second straight year, sustaining long-term sales growth targets of 5–7% through 2030.
1. Capacity Expansion Achievements
APS completed over 400 MW of owned generation ahead of schedule, including new gas units at Sundance, the Agave Battery Storage Facility, and Ironwood Solar. The Red Hawk gas expansion remains on track for completion in 2028 with preparations for an additional 2 GW of gas capacity from 2030 already underway.
2. Customer Growth and Sales Targets
The utility installed more than 34,000 new meters for the second consecutive year, the highest level in two decades, supporting long-term weather-normalized sales growth targets of 5% to 7% through 2030. Management highlighted improved customer satisfaction and digital engagement, led by an AI-powered high bill analyzer that enhances billing transparency.
3. Peak Demand and Reliability
APS set a new system peak of 8,648 MW on August 7, over 400 MW above the prior year, while Palo Verde operated at a 100% summertime capacity factor and received an INPO Excellence Award. Executives emphasized top-quartile reliability and customer experience during Arizona’s third hottest summer on record.
4. Future Planning and Regulatory Outlook
Executives plan to file an updated 15-year integrated resource plan mid-year, reflecting 4.5 GW of committed large-load demand and excluding uncontracted projects. A pending rate case, continued infrastructure expansion and a subscription model for uncommitted customers aim to support extra-high load factor growth and maintain disciplined execution.
