Planet Labs says Tanager-2 hyperspectral satellite doubles methane-detection capacity, halves revisit times
PL•Payload and constellation plans
The payload is set to capture 426 contiguous bands at about 5 nm spectral resolution, with 30-meter spatial resolution for VSWIR imaging.
Plans call for at least three additional Tanager satellites, extending the hyperspectral constellation and broadening commercial product development.
The shipment also included 18 SuperDove satellites to reinforce PlanetScope’s daily global monitoring, supporting AI-driven broad-area analytics.
Tanager-2 moves to Vandenberg ahead of Transporter-18
Planet moved its Tanager-2 hyperspectral satellite to Vandenberg ahead of SpaceX’s Transporter-18, targeting a major capacity expansion.
Tanager-2 is designed to double hyperspectral capacity, cut revisit times, and support methane super-emitter detection under the Carbon Mapper partnership.
