Platinum Group affiliate advances platinum, palladium lithium-sulfur cells to pilot-scale prototypes
PLG•Lion Battery Technologies completed first-phase independent testing of its platinum- and palladium-based lithium-sulfur cells and is moving toward pilot-scale manufacturing of commercial pouch-cell prototypes.
1. Testing advances cells
Battery Innovation Center testing validated Lion’s electrode design, with platinum group metal catalysts lifting capacity and rate capability versus non-catalyzed cells. Palladium-rich formulations delivered the strongest overall results; the next stage targets commercial pouch-cell prototypes in multiple configurations, with initial performance work aimed at high-energy drone applications.
