Pope Leo says concerns about AI doom are not 'fake news'
NVDA•Pope Leo said concerns that artificial intelligence could destroy the world should be taken seriously, rejecting President Donald Trump’s description of such fears as a “hoax.” He also criticized technology CEOs who oppose limits and government regulation of AI.
1. Pope urges AI safeguards
Pope Leo said experts’ concerns that artificial intelligence could destroy humanity should be taken seriously and are not “fake news.” Speaking on a flight back to Rome after a four-day trip to France, he urged dialogue, study and investigation to prevent AI from reaching that point.
2. Criticism of tech leaders
Leo criticized technology CEOs who argue there should be no guardrails on AI, and expressed skepticism about Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang’s comments on the issue. Huang told CBS News this month that he agreed with Trump that AI safety concerns were overblown.
