Primerica HBI rises to 100.5% in July as gas prices ease budgets

Primerica reported its Household Budget Index at 100.5% in July, up 0.4% from June.
The index also rose 0.4% year over year, indicating a modest lift in middle-income purchasing power.
Average earned income increased 0.2% month over month and was up 2.1% from a year earlier.
Consumer Price Index inflation ran at 3.4% year over year in July.
Necessities inflation in the index basket rose 3.7% year over year; lower gas prices provided a second straight month of relief.
