ProFrac Launches Closed-Loop Fracturing, Boosts Efficiency by 7.5% at Commercial Scale
ProFrac and Seismos completed a fully closed-loop fracturing program on a 4-well pad in the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk basins, executing 183 stages from February 13 to March 4, 2026, with average automated response times under five minutes. Stages with intra-stage interventions saw 7% mid-stage and 7.5% end-stage perforation efficiency gains, supporting industry research that uniform fluid distribution can boost productivity up to 20%.
1. Commercial Deployment
ProFrac partnered with Seismos to deploy the first real-time, intra-stage closed-loop fracturing system across a 4-well pad in the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk basins, completing 183 stages between February 13 and March 4, 2026.
2. Real-Time Optimization Performance
Using direct in-well SAFA™ measurements and ProFrac’s ProPilot® surface automation, the system detected performance deviations algorithmically and executed corrective adjustments in under five minutes on average, with future targets below two minutes.
3. Production and Efficiency Gains
Stages with automated interventions delivered a 7% mid-stage and 7.5% end-stage perforation efficiency improvement compared to non-intervention stages, and industry models suggest that these uniform fluid distributions can enhance cluster-level productivity by up to 20%, with no added non-productive time.
