PSE&G has reinforced its transmission lines and workforce ahead of consecutive days above 100°F this week with PJM issuing hot weather alerts. The heat wave could boost cooling electricity use by up to 300%, lifting demand despite bill management programs designed to ease customer strain.
Forecasts call for consecutive days exceeding 100°F across New Jersey from June 29 to July 3, prompting PJM to issue hot weather alerts. Extreme temperatures can increase residential cooling electricity use by up to 300%, driving peak demand and potential revenue gains for the utility.
PSE&G has invested in year-round system modernization, reinforcing transmission lines, upgrading substations and training crews to maintain reliability under extreme weather. These measures support continuous power delivery and rapid response capabilities during heat-related stress on the network.
Customers are urged to use MyMeter for real-time usage monitoring, adjust thermostats, use ceiling fans and close blinds to curb consumption. PSE&G also offers rebates, energy audits, Equal Payment Plans, Deferred Payment Arrangements and eligibility-based assistance programs to manage higher bills.
