QatarEnergy in talks to buy up to 3 million tons of LNG annually from Woodside's Louisiana plant
WDS•QatarEnergy is in talks to buy up to 3 million metric tons of LNG annually from Woodside Energy’s Louisiana LNG plant for 15 to 20 years, one source said. The plant under construction is designed to export 16.5 million tons a year.
1. Potential supply agreement
QatarEnergy is negotiating a long-term deal to buy up to 3 million metric tons of LNG per year from Woodside Energy’s Louisiana LNG plant, three people with knowledge of the talks said. If finalized, the agreement could run for 15 to 20 years, one source said. Woodside said it does not respond to market speculation; QatarEnergy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
2. US supply deals
QatarEnergy has also reached a long-term agreement to buy 4 million metric tons of LNG annually from Cheniere Energy, with supply split between its Louisiana and Texas facilities. It is also in advanced talks with Venture Global to buy at least 3 million metric tons a year, Reuters reported.
3. Plant capacity and fees
Woodside’s Louisiana LNG facility is under construction with planned export capacity of 16.5 million metric tons a year. Two people said the project is seeking liquefaction fees above $2.50 per million British thermal units, citing contract flexibility and shorter contract terms.
