QinetiQ announced it will realign its U.S. operations to comply with President Trump’s defense industry priorities focusing on modernization and domestic manufacturing requirements. Despite near-term spending uncertainty in core markets, the company affirmed it remains on track to meet its full-year financial targets.

1. QinetiQ US Business Restructuring Focused on Defense Priorities

QinetiQ’s US subsidiary has launched a comprehensive realignment to support the US administration’s stated defense priorities. The company plans to increase investment in directed energy systems and cybersecurity solutions, reallocating £50 million of R&D spend into these areas over the next 12 months. This shift follows President Trump's call for a leaner, more responsive defense industrial base and is expected to boost QinetiQ US’s contribution to group revenues from 20% in 2020 to approximately 25% by the end of fiscal 2022. Senior management has identified three strategic US programs—airborne laser protection, autonomous ground vehicles and network resilience—as initial beneficiaries of the realignment.

2. Full-Year Financial Targets Remain on Track Despite Spending Uncertainty

Despite citing ‘near-term spending uncertainty’ within core markets, QinetiQ Group PLC reiterated its full-year guidance. The company maintains a revenue target of £1.55 billion to £1.60 billion and an adjusted operating profit margin of 13%–14%. In the first half, QinetiQ delivered £780 million in revenue, up 4% year-on-year, and an adjusted operating margin of 13.2%. Order intake for the period reached £900 million, supporting a robust forward order book of £2.1 billion. Management emphasized that disciplined cost control and a diversified portfolio across defence, security and critical infrastructure services underpin the confidence in meeting annual goals.
