Quilter says UK housing market stays in holding pattern as rate uncertainty persists
XLRE•Buyer confidence and affordability
Buyer confidence remains subdued.
Quilter said a clearer path for rates would help lift activity, though affordability still constrains demand.
UK housing market remains in a holding pattern
Quilter flagged UK housing activity as stuck in a holding pattern, citing rate uncertainty tied to the stop-start Middle East conflict.
Nationwide data showed house prices up 0.2% in August, with annual growth at 1.6% and the average property price at GBP 275,465.
Borrowing costs and Bank of England expectations
Borrowing costs may not have peaked, with markets still pricing in one further Bank of England rate rise this year.
The next Bank of England decision is due on Sept. 17. A hold is seen as the most likely outcome, though confidence in that view has weakened.
