Quoin Establishes Japanese Subsidiary After QRX003 Orphan Drug Designation to Boost Phase 3 Launch
QNRX•Quoin Pharmaceuticals has established a wholly-owned Japanese subsidiary to directly commercialize its Netherton Syndrome therapy QRX003, following orphan drug designation by Japan’s MHLW. The move complements existing designations in the US and EU, supports Phase 3 plans in H2 2026 and self-commercialization in its three core markets.
1. Japanese Subsidiary Formation
Quoin established a wholly owned subsidiary in Japan to advance self-commercialization of its 4% QRX003 lotion for Netherton Syndrome, one of its three core markets. The local entity will facilitate direct interactions with Japanese regulators, clinicians, and patient advocacy organizations while building commercial infrastructure.
2. Orphan Drug Incentives Secured
QRX003 has received Orphan Drug Designation from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, adding to previous designations in the US and EU. These designations grant development incentives, market exclusivity, and regulatory support across Quoin’s core commercial territories.
3. Clinical and Commercial Roadmap
QRX003 is in Phase 2 whole-body trials, with a pivotal Phase 3 study slated for the second half of 2026 and potential NDA filing in 2027. Outside Japan, the company has nine partnerships covering 61 countries, positioning QRX003 for near-global availability if approved.
