Realloys Secures 80% of Saskatchewan Rare-Earth Output Ahead of January 2027 Pentagon Ban
REalloys has built a non-Chinese supply chain for rare-earth magnets, securing 80% of output from Saskatchewan’s research council facility for defense. The plant will deliver 400 tonnes of refined metals in 2027, rising to 600 tonnes by late 2028, positioning REalloys ahead of the January 1 2027 Pentagon DFARS ban on Chinese-sourced magnets.
1. Supply Chain Bottleneck
REalloys has created the only non-Chinese finished-magnet supply chain by integrating metallization and alloy conversion at its Ohio facility and securing exclusive rights to raw output, addressing a chokepoint that halted Ford Explorer production and darkened European auto lines when Chinese exports were restricted.
2. Strategic Acquisitions and Partnerships
The company acquired PMT Critical Metals in Euclid, Ohio, and locked in an exclusive offtake covering 80% of production from the Saskatchewan Research Council’s rare earth processing plant, sourcing feedstock from North America, Brazil, Kazakhstan and Greenland to bypass Chinese inputs at every stage.
3. Pentagon DFARS Deadline
Effective January 1 2027, Pentagon DFARS rules will ban any Chinese-sourced rare earth inputs through finished magnets, forcing defense contractors to secure fully traceable non-Chinese supply chains or risk losing key military and aerospace contracts.
4. Production Outlook and Market Impact
The Saskatchewan facility is slated to produce 400 tonnes of refined rare earth metals in 2027, ramping to 600 tonnes by late 2028, positioning REalloys to meet a projected tripling of magnet demand by 2035 and creating high barriers for competitors who face three to seven year qualification timelines.
