Red Cat Enters $1.1 B Drone Race with $150 M Phase 1 Prototype Awards
Red Cat Holdings, through its Teal Drones unit, is competing alongside Kratos and 23 others for the War Department’s $1.1 billion Drone Dominance Program over four phases. Phase 1 “Gauntlet I” kicks off February 18 with about $150 million in prototype orders due in March and fielding within five months.
1. Program Overview
The War Department’s Drone Dominance Program is a four-phase, $1.1 billion acquisition initiative designed to accelerate procurement of low-cost unmanned attack drones. Red Cat Holdings, via its Teal Drones subsidiary, is one of 25 vendors invited to compete at Fort Benning for lead vendor status.
2. Phase 1 Details
Gauntlet I, the Phase 1 evaluation, begins on February 18 and places military operators in direct control of competing systems. Upon completion in early March, the department plans to issue approximately $150 million in prototype delivery orders, a departure from traditional multi-year R&D cycles.
3. Deployment Timeline and Impact
Selected drones are slated to reach front-line units within five months of award, compressing the timeline for combat-ready fielding. This rapid procurement model could drive significant near-term revenue growth for Red Cat if Teal Drones secures orders.
