Regeneron says Phase 2 COURAGE trial shows trevogrumab preserves lean mass during semaglutide weight loss
REGN•Regeneron said Phase 2 COURAGE results showed trevogrumab helped preserve muscle during semaglutide-driven weight loss in people with obesity, without increasing overall weight loss. The findings were presented at the EASD Annual Meeting, and the study is in press at The Lancet.
1. Muscle preservation results
MRI and body-composition assessments indicated that patients taking trevogrumab kept substantially more muscle than those taking semaglutide alone, while overall weight-loss results did not increase. A subgroup analysis suggested the benefit was greater among participants who started with low lean mass.
2. Planned trial
Regeneron plans another Phase 2 trial combining trevogrumab with GLP-1-based therapies in older adults with obesity and reduced muscle mass or strength.
