In the first quarter of 2026, registered investment advisors raised their average ETF count to 89.7 per firm. Net additions outpaced drops, with 50.1% of RIAs adding new ETFs versus 28.9% reducing holdings and an overall turnover ratio climbing to 12.3%.
2. Invesco Market Share Impact
Among the largest ETF issuers, Invesco experienced a minor share decline as a portion of RIAs shifted allocations. This reduction occurred despite the broader increase in ETF adoption, indicating competitive pressure from emerging strategies.
3. Active and Specialty ETF Growth
Active-focused issuers saw notable gains, led by Akre Capital Management’s AKRE ETF, which achieved a 188.6% surge in RIA holders. Cohen & Steers, REX Shares and Cambria also recorded increases of 35.3%, 31.6% and 27.0%, respectively.
4. Category Allocation Shifts
Energy-focused ETFs attracted 14.0% more RIAs, commodities broad baskets rose by 13.2%, and natural resources allocations climbed 8.4%. Additional inflows targeted industrials, Latin American equities and diversified emerging markets.
